Improving the Efficiency of Solar Cells
Nanogenesis is developing solar cells with higher efficiency than current photovoltaic (PV) devices. The technology employs plasmonic resonance cavities that greatly enhance the concentration of light within the cell. By combining these plasmonic structures with multi-junction cells that accept light from the entire solar spectrum, the device offers the potential for higher efficiency and performance for power generation applications.
Solar-thermal energy harvesting
Nanogenesis is working on concepts that can harvest electrical energy from both light and heat. In modern solar cells, much of the sun’s energy is lost to heat and is not converted to electricity. Our technology has the potential to improve the overall electricity generation capacity of a solar cell by adding thermoelectric generators that are thin, flexible and able to withstand high temperatures.
